Inauguration of CIDET, “cornerstone” of the TUROMAS expansion project
On Saturday, July 27th, TUROMAS inaugurated its Innovation and Special Developments Center (CIDET), the cornerstone of its expansion project. The Center aims to channel efforts into research, design, and the development of new machinery, software, and comprehensive solutions.
The inaugural event was attended by the Deputy Mayor of Rubielos de Mora, José Vivó; the Mayor of Mora de Rubielos, Hugo Arquímides Ríos; the Deputy Mayor of Mora de Rubielos, Luisa Vivas; the President of the Spanish Confederation of Self-Employed in Teruel and President of the Gúdar-Javalambre Association, Juan Carlos Escuder; the President of CEPYME Teruel, Juan Ciércoles; and the President of the Teruel Chamber of Commerce, Antonio Santa Isabel.
The Mayor of Rubielos de Mora, Ángel Gracia, and provincial deputy Antonio Amador were also scheduled to speak, alongside Álvaro Tomás and Antonio Ortega, Vice President and CEO of TUROMAS, respectively. Gracia was absent for personal reasons, and in his place, Deputy Mayor José Vivó attended.
Vivó highlighted the importance of having a local company that generates employment and boosts the population in the current context of depopulation. He also publicly expressed the efforts being made by the city council to make fiber optics a reality.
The event began with words of welcome and gratitude to the attendees from the Vice President of TUROMAS. Álvaro Tomás emphasized that innovation is the cornerstone of future growth, but despite continuing to expand activity and consolidating its image as an international company, the essence and values of the family business that started in 1985 must not be lost.
Tomás expressed his pride in leading a cutting-edge company from Teruel and Spain that competes with large German, Austrian, and Italian corporations in the flat glass machinery industry.
Currently, in addition to its factory in Spain, TUROMAS has a branch in Santiago de Chile and another in Sao Paulo. Latin America is considered one of the most strategic markets for the expansion plan, which is why a third branch will open in Bogotá at the end of November. This new subsidiary will be presented at the Colombia Glass 2019 fair.
Álvaro Tomás, Vice President of Turomas, welcomed each and every attendee at the start of the CIDET inauguration event.
Before handing over the floor to the CEO of TUROMAS, a summary video of the company’s history and evolution was projected.
Antonio Ortega structured his speech into two parts. In the first, he presented CIDET as a reinforcement of the innovative spirit of the Teruel-based company. The Center stands as a new company within the Group, Tur&Development, S.L., which will continue working on advanced solutions with 4.0 technology, as well as developing new product ranges to complement the TUROMAS development portfolio.
In the second part, Ortega spoke about the expansion of production capacity that the expansion project will bring. Supported by an architectural render, attendees could visualize the current layout of the warehouses and how the space will look with the addition of the new ones. In total, five warehouses of 2,000 square meters each will be built.
In addition to a more effective distribution of spaces with new connections to shorten distances, investment in advanced machinery and equipment, and the creation of interaction spaces for employees, a plan for energy saving, efficiency, and environmental sustainability will be implemented.
Another key point within this second section was job creation. In five years, from 2014 to the present year, TUROMAS has doubled its workforce. Today, the Rubielos de Mora company has 100 workers and an organizational chart with new departments resulting from evolution and specialization. The expansion plan estimates the generation of at least 50 more jobs.
Furthermore, internship agreements will continue to be signed with vocational training centers and universities. Students will benefit from eminently practical training that complements their learning, facilitating their entry into the labor market, and will bring updated knowledge to the company.
To conclude, the CEO did not want to overlook TUROMAS’ commitment to Teruel. From the beginning, Miguel Tomás, the founder of the company, bet on Rubielos de Mora, and the commitment to the territory is reinforced despite the obstacles.
With the mention of Miguel Tomás, Álvaro Tomás brought the inaugural act to a close. “Miguel is an example of perseverance. Constancy and tenacity are key to progressing and moving projects forward despite difficulties. These attributes have helped TUROMAS achieve a prominent presence across five continents.”
Antonio Ortega, CEO of Turomas, explained the Turomas expansion project in detail.
“The most important resource a company needs for any project is in the head. Why are people with ideas paid so much? Because they cannot be mass-produced; no matter how much money a person has, that money will never be able to produce the brilliant ideas that a mind can create in an empty room.” Antonio Ortega, CEO of Turomas.
International Networks! Event
The inauguration of CIDET was part of the celebration of International Networks!, a biennial event aimed at the commercial network and some of TUROMAS’ main clients.
This year, 2019, the event celebrated its third edition. The first, in 2015, coincided with the thirtieth anniversary of TUROMAS. The second, in 2017, coincided with the retirement of Miguel Tomás.
Saturday’s session began in the morning with a guided tour of the company’s facilities. After lunch and a few hours of rest in the respective hotels, the official inauguration of CIDET took place. Following this act, all attendees enjoyed a pleasant evening at the medieval castle of Mora de Rubielos with a few surprises.
Once again, during the dinner, the work of the best distributor of 2018 was publicly recognized, which went to the Romanian company Alumni. To this distinction, for the first time, the recognition of the best agent of 2018 was added, which went to Satecris from Madrid.
