TUROMAS supplies its equipment to Üveg, the most automated new plant in Latin America

Üveg, the new Argentine glass processor, has chosen TUROMAS as the supplier of equipment for its new plant in Córdoba: two automatic glass cutting lines, one for monolithic glass and one for laminated glass, together with a new jumbo glass storage system with offcut management.

Located in the city of Córdoba, Argentina, this company operates a 12,000-square-meter plant on a 3.5-hectare site. It features a fully automated infrastructure thanks to recently installed equipment from leading European brands and state-of-the-art technology.

Among the processes carried out at the plant are jumbo glass tempering and lamination, the production of insulating glass units and laminated insulating glass with argon gas, as well as the processing of glass with special coatings such as TPF and Easy PRO.

We interviewed Santiago Ürményi, co-founder of Üveg.

With more than twenty years of experience managing leading national factories, Santiago Ürményi has a deep understanding of the challenges faced by the sector. This strong background led him to seek innovative solutions to overcome the common obstacles affecting efficiency, quality, and growth in the glass industry.

Santiago Ürményi, co-founder of Üveg.

Starting in 2015, he visited 25 glass processing plants around the world with the goal of designing a plant in Argentina capable of delivering a service aligned with the demands of the most competitive global markets.

During that search, Santiago found in TUROMAS a reliable partner capable of meeting the industry’s highest standards.

“Choosing the machines was a long and difficult process. We visited more than 20 plants in Europe to understand which technology was best for us, and once we truly understood what we wanted, we chose TUROMAS.”

“The installation process has been exceptional. People came all the way from Spain to Argentina and, without a doubt, we felt very comfortable with the team at all times.

A first-class installation has been carried out, with high-quality machinery and a truly valuable implementation. Our production expectations are very high, and Üveg and TUROMAS are working collaboratively to refine every detail and ensure the machinery operates at full capacity.”

Installation with automatic breaker and two automatic cutting lines

The machines installed at the Argentine plant include an intelligent glass storage system — LA-06 — featuring a dual cutting supply system through two tilting tables, MAM-06. The loader is equipped with a frame fitted with high-precision, high-power vacuum suction cups designed to hold and transport glass panels safely. These machines stand out for their advanced control technology, offering remarkable speed and precision that significantly reduce loading times and effectively increase productivity.

Alongside the LA-06 storage system, an external SG-06 automatic offcut storage system has been installed, allowing offcuts to be stored safely without risk of damage, while keeping track of their exact location, dimensions, and glass type for later use in optimization processes.

TUROMAS software has also been implemented, including StockGlass tools, which simplify inventory management by collecting stock information from automatic storage systems, and LinkGlass, which automates the production sequence by eliminating operator intervention in the selection of work orders and loading programming.

Two automatic lines

For the glass cutting process, two automatic lines were installed.

The first is a complete float glass cutting line, RUBI 516C, equipped with linear motors and an automatic breaker TX-6A. The automatic breaking system breaks transverse cuts (the “X” axis) through the combined action of a lower longitudinal breaking bar and top point clamping of the piece. It maintains high edge quality at a constant pace to ensure continuous glass flow along the cutting line.

Alongside this line, TUROMAS Cutting TV has been added, an application that provides automatic visualization of optimizations. At a glance, the operator has access to all the information needed for the breaking process. The screen displays parts, offcuts, and the processes required in each optimization. It automates the process, avoids paper use, and allows the customization of fields and the adjustment of parameters such as minimum offcut size and weight limit.

The second is a mixed monolithic and laminated glass line, LAM 504TX, which includes a second synchronized cutting bridge — LAM 304. The line incorporates TUROMAS Splitter software, which automatically balances and distributes transverse cuts according to the specific needs of each optimization, assisting the operator in decision-making.

These technological solutions guarantee an efficient and precise glass cutting process, making it possible to maximize resources and achieve high-quality results.

Üveg has gone beyond local sales and expanded into export markets, successfully competing with established companies in Chile, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, and Spain.

“Thanks to the investment we have made and the team we are building, we have been able to secure major projects scheduled for late 2022 and early 2023, so we are very pleased to see our plant’s potential becoming a reality in important projects in Argentina and across the region.”
