Vidraria Mortágua’s current goal is to become the leader in the sector over the coming years, and of course, for that we count on TUROMAS.

Interview with Rogerio Moreira, General Manager of Mortágua

The Portuguese glass processor Vidraria Mortágua renews its commitment to TUROMAS by acquiring a new LA-06 intelligent storage system and a monolithic glass cutting line – Easy Pro. Its General Manager, Rogerio Moreira, explains the history of the relationship and the important role TUROMAS plays in the company.

Vidraria Mortágua, founded in March 1996, began its activity with the commercialization of flat glass and double glazing. Its continuous commitment to technology and innovation has positioned it as one of the benchmark companies in glass processing in the Portuguese market.
Today, it has a production area of 26,000 square meters dedicated to the manufacture of laminated and insulating glass for both residential and commercial applications in a wide variety of dimensions. It has a team of 125 people and a distribution network covering all of Europe.
For the coming years, the company has planned an expansion project that will increase its production capacity by more than 30,000 square meters.

Since 2007, when the Portuguese company acquired its first two TUROMAS cutting lines, Vidraria Mortágua has trusted TUROMAS as its supplier of glass cutting lines and, more recently, also of intelligent glass storage systems.

“The relationship with TUROMAS began in 2007 with a very interesting project. We were moving to our current facilities in the Mortágua Industrial Zone, where we had 8,000 m2 of covered area, and that was where we installed the first glass cutting tables for laminated and monolithic glass.”

“In 2017, we once again trusted TUROMAS and presented them with a new challenge: to supply us with an 8-meter glass cutting line capable of deleting the EASY PRO coating, the new protective layer for Saint-Gobain safety glass. TUROMAS did a great job and the solution for removing the coating was more than satisfactory.”

The Portuguese company currently operates 5 TUROMAS glass cutting lines: one laminated glass cutting line and 4 monolithic glass cutting lines RUBI 306T, RUBI 516C, RUBI 518C. The latest of these was specifically manufactured to work with glass up to 8 meters long.

These solutions are equipped with the innovative ACR edge deletion system, Advanced Coating Removal, specifically designed to work with EasyPro glass, the new protective coating for Saint-Gobain safety glass. The TUROMAS system was tested and certified by the French manufacturer at Mortágua’s own facilities, achieving very good results at 100 m/min and 4000 rpm.

In addition to the cutting lines, in 2021 the company acquired a new overhead glass storage system LA-06. This equipment fully manages the warehouse and the transport of glass to the different cutting tables, being capable of feeding up to 4 lines.

In Mortágua’s case, the storage system consists of 1 automatic classifier for 6 x 3.21 m glass, with a total capacity of up to 262 tons distributed across 23 positions, and a fixed rack area with a capacity of up to 519 tons.

The loader manipulator incorporates a suction cup frame, each one equipped with a pneumatic cylinder designed to absorb pressure, adapt to possible irregularities, and avoid excessive stress on the glass.

Thanks to the deep modernization of the production area, automation, and the implementation of the most advanced quality systems in the company, Rogerio Moreira is clear: “Vidraria Mortágua’s current objective is to become the leader in the sector over the coming years, and of course, for that we count on TUROMAS.”
