TUROMAS is the only manufacturer of monolithic glass cutting tables that guarantees a perfect cut for any thickness, including a thickness of 25 millimeters.
A flawless cut is obtained when a 90-degree angle is formed between the surface and the profile of the glass, but for many years, it has been impossible to achieve this angle with the options available on the market.
“The differences are more pronounced when you want to cut a narrow strip near the edge of the sheet. This is where a conventional cut will cause the breakout angle to be non-perpendicular. The potential subsequent edging process will require additional consumption of polishing wheels to rectify the glass edge.
In thick glass, moreover, an extra margin of several millimeters will be required to be able to polish afterwards and obtain the desired measurement. For example, in 15 or 19-millimeter glass, it would mean leaving a margin of 3 or 4 millimeters. The cost of polishing that amount of glass is very high; therefore, this solution is expensive and inefficient in production terms,” adds Miguel Ángel Guillén, R&D Director at TUROMAS.

Thirty-five years of experience in flat glass cutting has taught TUROMAS that, to achieve excellence, it is necessary to optimize the four most important parameters involved in cutting: lubrication, the angle and diameter of the cutting wheel, the speed, and the pressure exerted on the sheet.
Adjusting these parameters individually is not difficult; the real complexity lies in correctly applying all of them at once. Previously, the optimal angle and diameter of the cutting wheel could only be achieved by manually modifying them for each specific glass thickness.
In 2008, this process changed decisively when TUROMAS developed and patented 4tool (In the [#TUROMASTECHNOLOGY] section), a new world-pioneering technology that achieves a perfect cut on any glass, regardless of its thickness.
This revolutionary technology definitively eliminates manual wheel changes because it automatically detects the thickness and adapts the specific tool for each sheet.
Furthermore, 4tool integrates four individual, automatically selected cutting tools, each with its own cutting wheel, lubrication system, and pressure cylinder specifically sized for its cutting range.
The first tool is intended for cutting glass from 0.55 millimeters to 2 millimeters thick. The second and third are used for glass from 2 millimeters to 12 millimeters, which are the most common thicknesses. The fourth tool uses a larger diameter wheel to cut 12-millimeter, 15-millimeter, 19-millimeter, and 25-millimeter glass.

“The great consistency obtained with this system differs greatly from the fragility of tool-change systems, where small and delicate mechanisms often break easily. Additionally, the redundancy in the cutting tools means the machine remains functional even if there is a problem with one of the tools in the head,” says Miguel Ángel Guillén.
This cutting-edge solution makes TUROMAS the only machinery manufacturer for the flat glass industry capable of achieving a high-standard cut in any thickness, considerably reducing subsequent glass processing, saving costs, and eliminating production downtime.
